The odd one

Sometimes you feel you are really getting to know the place and people. On other days in Egypt it is so obvious that you are a foreigner, both to others and to yourself. No matter how much you learn, or how much you try to understand and empathize, you will still feel like this…

and that mention of papers reminds me – it is almost time to travel again to get my Visa renewed. That is always an interesting encounter with Egyptian government officials, but having now done it several times I am more mentally prepared for the experience. The emotions it brings up, of wanting to stay but also missing my old country, are a little harder to control.
